2014Guiding the South Omo ever since
The guide
Born here. Guiding since 2014.
Gech Omo Valley Authentic Tours was founded on one belief: travel should feel alive, and everyone it touches — every traveller, every host community, every river and animal along the way — should be better for it.
Based between Arba Minch and Jinka, Gech builds private, group and family journeys across the South Omo — from the bull-jumping grounds of the Hamer to the painted faces of the Karo, the lakes below the Rift wall and the forty springs the town is named for. He handles every detail — 4x4, guide, permits, camps — so you arrive with an open heart and simply meet the place.

Arba Minch & the Two Lakes
Lake Chamo · Nechisar N.P. · Dorze · Forty Springs
Short on time? Stay in Arba Minch and go big on wildlife. Giant crocodiles and hippos by boat on Lake Chamo, zebra on the Nechisar plains, the Dorze weavers, the spring-fed forest — and a traditional dance to close.
Have your own idea? A single-tribe day, a family-friendly week, a photography trip, a boat safari afternoon — tell Gech your dates and interests and he'll build the route around the market days and ceremonies happening while you're here.
Bring your passport or ID card, and some cash for extras.
We travel with the market days — the best time to meet several peoples at once.
Remote routes mean long drives and basic camps — tell us in advance if you're pregnant or have mobility needs and we'll adapt.
Please review current government travel guidance for the region before you book.

Faces of the South Omo
More than a dozen nations live within a few hours of one another here, each with its own language, dress and art. On our journeys you're welcomed in — on market days and ceremony days, with time to actually meet people, not watch from a bus window.

Your questions, answered
Most journeys start and end in Arba Minch or Jinka, and we pick you up from the airport or your hotel. On the longer routes we can also arrange transfers from Addis Ababa. Just tell us where you're arriving.
The easiest way is a short domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Arba Minch or Jinka. Road transfers are also possible. We'll help you plan the connection to line up with your tour's first day.
Yes — we run private, group and family tours, from a single day to 20+ days. You travel only with your own party and your guide, at your own pace.
Everything on the road: your 4x4 with driver and fuel (or motorbike), a licensed local guide, a park scout, hotels and camping, three meals a day, unlimited water and coffee, and all village, park, photo and phone fees — plus the boat across the Omo.
The 4x4 is the comfortable, all-weather choice and great for families. The motorbike is the adventurous, lower-cost option for confident travellers who want to feel the road. Both cover the same route.
The Hamer bull-jumping is seasonal and not on a fixed calendar. We plan your dates around the local market and ceremony days, so if one is happening while you're here, we'll take you.
English, Amharic, Italian, Japanese and French. Let us know your preference when you book.
We work with local guides and park scouts, pay fair wages to host communities, and keep our footprint small. As with any trip, please also review current government travel guidance for the region before you book.
